About the motif
The composition combines a cubist portrait of a woman with the silhouette of a seated cat, set against a geometric grid in the De Stijl style. The cool, gray-beige tone of the figures contrasts with intense brick-red and anthracite vertical and horizontal bands, creating tension between the organic and the constructivist.
